Get to know the men and women at the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services who serve those who sacrificed for our freedoms.

The ADVS Staff Spotlight will be published every second and fourth Friday of the month on the ADVS social media pages and website with tidbits and fun facts about our employees.

The Staff Spotlight will highlight staff from all of our departments within ADVS including our Executive staff, Veterans Services Division, Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemeteries, Arizona State Veteran Homes and more!

This week’s Staff Spotlight features our VBC Ryan Moore!

 Name: Ryan Moore

Role at ADVS: Veteran Benefits Counselor in the Southern Region

When did you start at ADVS: February 8, 2021

Did you serve in the military: Yes, I was a Corporal 3531 Motor Transport Operator for four years in the Marine Corps. I was stationed at 29 Palms California and served with the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.

Did anyone in your family serve: Yes! I have family members who have served extensively in the military. My father and step-mother served 20 years in the U.S. Army. My maternal grandfather served in the U.S. Air Force and my paternal grandfather served in the U.S. Army as well!

What do you do at ADVS: As a Veterans Benefits Counselor, my role is to ensure I serve my fellow Veterans and their family members by providing direct assistance with VA Compensation/Benefits. I provide insight, knowledge, and assistance to all Veterans in need of compensation, health care and education benefits.

Why did you decide to join ADVS: Following my graduation from college in 2020, I honestly felt at a loss for how to move forward in my career path. I knew deep down that I wanted to continue my service from the military in some way and be of service to my community. I was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to apply to be a Veterans Benefits Counselor and have loved it since! I am fortunate to be in a position where I can work and directly assist fellow Veterans like myself in receiving the benefits that they are entitled to.

Why is your job important to helping Arizona Veterans: I separated from the United States Marine Corps in 2016. When I went through the separation process, I did not have resources or support to assist me with my own VA compensation/benefits. Following my separation military service, I was lost and did not know what to do. I was able to figure out on my own how to submit my own VA Compensation Claim following my military service, but this left a serious impact on me. I never want a fellow Veteran or family member to go through what I went through when I was navigating the VA system on my own. It fulfills me and brings me great joy to represent and to be an advocate for my clients!

What do you enjoy about working at ADVS: Working with fellow Veterans and individuals who care just as much about our Veteran community as I do! Most importantly, being able to provide services to my local Veteran community gives me a sense of purpose and allows to me to be a positive force in their lives. Our Veterans deserve the best that we can offer!

Outside of ADVS, what do you enjoy doing: I enjoy listening to music, watching movies and playing video games on my PC! I also enjoy spending time with family, friends, significant other and trying new things!

If you had any kind of superpower, what would it be: So many good options! I personally would choose the superpower of teleportation.

Thank you for the work you do for our Arizona Veterans!
