Here's How To Retire A U.S. Flag At An Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery
ARIZONA- Did you know that Veterans, organizations or community members can bring a U.S. Flag to be retired at any one of our three Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemeteries across the state?
The retirement of an American flag is a time-honored tradition and one that carries great significance. By bringing an American flag to one of the cemeteries to be disposed of, our staff will ensure the flag can be properly retired with the respect and gravity that it is entitled.
Per the United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8K, “the flag when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
At Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, a special fire pit is dedicated U.S. Flag retirements and the local Sierra Vista Girl Scout troop just retired their 10,000th U.S. Flag in April.
U.S. Flags can be dropped off at any of the main offices at any Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery during normal business hours.
