ADVS Selects New Deputy Director, Assistant Deputy Director

The Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services is pleased to announce our new Deputy Director and Assistant Deputy Director of the Veteran Services Division (VSD).

Gerardo “Gary” Ochoa was selected as the new Deputy Director, where he will provide executive oversight for all divisions within ADVS, including Veterans’ Services, Administration, Finance, Public and Intergovernmental Affairs, and the Arizona State Veteran Homes in Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma, and Flagstaff.

Gary has been with ADVS since 2009, where he first joined as a Veteran Benefits Counselor. Since then, he worked his way up, serving as the Assistant Deputy Director- VSD before his current position. He is also an active member of several Veterans’ Advisory Committees, Veterans’ Service Organizations, and serves on the board of Luke5Adventures.

Prior to joining ADVS, Gary spent 22 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and held key billets both stateside and overseas, including roles as Anti-Tank Company First Sergeant, HMH-466 Squadron Gunnery Sergeant, Alpha Company Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor, Recruit Training Regiment Operations and Training Chief, and Systems Administrator and Data Analyst for various aircraft squadrons.

William “Bill” Glennon was also promoted to Assistant Deputy Director-VSD. Bill has been with ADVS since 2015, where he worked as a Veteran Benefits Counselor before becoming the Central Region Manager for the VBCs.

In his current position, he provides executive oversight of the Veterans Services Division, including three regions of Veterans Benefits Counselors, Quality Review and Training, Arizona State Approving Agency, and three Arizona State Veterans Cemeteries in Sierra Vista, Marana and Camp Navajo.

During his military career, Bill served as a United States Air Force Fuels Management Specialist for 21 years at multiple overseas and stateside locations, culminating in a retirement at the rank of Master Sergeant.
