Captain Chris Gibbs retired after 23 years in the Air Force in 1996. His active duty career included several major Air Force weapon systems: Minuteman ICBMs (Electronics Technician), C-5 Instrumentation Systems (Avionics Technician), B-1B Test Team (Defensive Systems Engineer), and GPS Satellite Control (Satellite Engineering Officer for operations and analysis). He served in SAC, MAC, USAFE, AFOTEC, and Space Command.

Retirement led Chris to teaching for DoDDS, Fairfax County schools, and Safford, AZ schools. He enjoyed great success coaching high school sports for over 15 years. His leadership roles with the Boy Scouts of America covered nearly 30 years. Further civic engagement includes serving three terms as Mayor of Safford, AZ, with gubernatorial appointments to the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission and the Homeland Security, Eastern Regional Advisory Committee (ERAC). Chris served five years on the Gila Valley Arts Council and is past president of the Safford Rotary Club and the Graham County Historical Society. Chris is a Southern Arizona District Officer for Lions Clubs International. He is is a member of American Legion Post 32 in Safford and a Life Member of VFW Post 10385 in Thatcher, AZ.

Captain Gibbs received two A.A.S. degrees (Electronics Technology and Instrumentation Technology); two B.S. degrees from the University of Arizona (Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering); and an M.S. in Secondary Education (Mathematics) from Old Dominion University.

Captain Gibbs is married to Deborah Gibbs, Lt. Col., USAF (Ret). They have five children, 18 grand-children, and reside in Safford, AZ.
