Governor announces backing for State Veteran Home in Yuma

(Phoenix, AZ) – In her Executive Budget, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s proposal for the budget year beginning July 1, 2015 includes $9.2 million for a new veterans home in Yuma. The 60 to 90 bed facility would be the third in the state. The other two are in Phoenix and Tucson. Brewer budget director John Arnold says the federal government will pay for two-thirds of the cost of the home. The facility won’t require state money to operate once it is built.

Governor Announces $7.6 Million Grant to Fund New State Veterans Cemetery in Marana. 
 
“This is fantastic news for Arizonans, and especially for the southern Arizona veterans and advocates who have championed for this cemetery for more than a decade,” said Governor Brewer. “Arizona is home to more than half-a-million military veterans, including nearly 135,000 in Pima and surrounding counties. This grant will help Arizona in our continued mission to properly honor those who have nobly served and sacrificed on our country’s behalf.

Our Current State: Ending Chronic Veteran Homelessness

Ending homelessness is possible. It does not mean that no one will ever experience homelessness again. It means that when an individual or family has a housing crisis, our community has the systems and resources in place to immediately identify and support them in rapidly getting back into housing. Instances of homelessness should be rare, short-lived and non-recurring.
